Questions I am often asked
How do I find out what is causing my gut symptoms?
There are many causes that we could explore including:
- Low bile production
- Poor hydrochloric acid levels in the stomach
- Low digestive enzyme production from the pancreas
- Poor chewing or saliva production
- Low levels of beneficial bacteria
- High levels of unhelpful bacteria
- High levels of yeast in the gut
- Poor levels or imbalances in short chain fatty acids (the by-products beneficial bacteria make)
- Leaky gut (when the gut wall is compromised)
- Auto immunity
- Hormonal imbalances
- Menopause
- Andropause
- Thyroid dysfunction
- Medication side effects
- pH highs or lows
- Food allergies or intolerances
- Low digestive immunity
- Low digestive motility (movement of food through digestion and movement of the stool out of the colon)
- Gut/brain signalling
- Fast eating
- Eating late
- Not eating enough
- Eating too much
- Exercise - too much or too little
- Poor levels of serotonin in the gut (yes, there is more in the gut than in the brain)
- Eating while distracted
- Nutritional deficiencies
- Stress impacting all of the above
- Small intestinal bacterial overgrowth (SIBO)
How can nutritional therapy help with my gut issues?
I am an expert in how all of the above processes work in the body, and I know how to find out how your symptoms, diet, environment, medical history etc can be impacting your health.
More importantly I know how to unpick these influences to improve symptoms and improve your health
My approach is a root cause approach that gets to what is underlying these problems. We can then start to change things from a fundamental level. This is always the best approach as anything else is like sticking a plaster over the problem. Your body is sending you a message, let’s not ignore it!
